Bao’s multidisciplinary research program spans the interface between organic geochemistry, marine geology, and environmental microbiology. With a background in both marine organic geochemistry and carbon cycle analysis, Bao has worked on a variety of topics that cover carbon dynamics on the continental shelf, radiocarbon geochronology in deep ocean, carbon cycles driven by microbial metabolism in sediment, etc. The future research will focus on the interdisciplinary areas between carbon cycles, molecular biogeochemistry, marine sedimentology, and carbon isotopic analysis in ocean sediments and extreme environments.
